WHAT IS THE PGPR

The PGPR is the island’s first event that combines functional fitness with live-fire shooting in a single, high-intensity competition - taking place on March 7, 2026, at the RL Shooting Club. Athletes will move through a series of stages that blend sandbags, sleds, rowers, ski ergs, and bodyweight movements with carefully supervised pistol and rifle challenges.

Our mission is simple: create a safe, legal, and unforgettable way for people in Puerto Rico to test themselves under pressure. Whether you come from the gym or functional fitness world, the shooting range, or you’ve always wanted to try something completely different, The PGPR is where you step out of your comfort zone and prove what you’re truly capable of.

WHY THIS EVENT EXISTS

Puerto Rico has thousands of athletes, first responders, veterans, and responsible gun owners. Until now, there has not been a large-scale event that truly brings those worlds together.

The PGPR was created to:

  • Give local athletes a new kind of challenge that goes beyond a normal race or gym competition.

  • Offer responsible gun owners a way to test their marksmanship under physical fatigue, in a controlled and professional setting.

  • Show that fitness and shooting can coexist safely, with structure, discipline, and respect for the law.

  • Position Puerto Rico as the home of the first fitness + live-fire event in the entire Caribbean.

By joining the inaugural edition, athletes, sponsors, and partners become founding members of something bigger: the starting point of a new sport in Puerto Rico and the region.

WHO IS THIS FOR

The PGPR is designed for:

  • Athletes who want a new challenge beyond the usual gym, race, or CrossFit-style competition.

  • Law-abiding gun owners who want to put their skills to the test under physical stress.

  • People who have always wanted a reason to get in better shape and try something different.

  • First-timers who are curious but have never competed in anything tactical before.

You don’t need to be a professional athlete or a tactical expert. With clearly defined divisions and progressive standards, there is a place for anyone willing to train, respect the rules, and show up ready to work.

HOW THE EVENT WORKS

The PGPR is a one-day event made up of multiple stages. Each stage combines functional fitness under time pressure with live-fire marksmanship under strict supervision.

Athletes complete:

  • Timed workouts using sandbags, sleds, kettlebells, dumbbells, farmers handles, battle ropes, rowers, ski ergs, and weighted vests.

  • Shooting challenges include pistol stages for all divisions, with additional rifle stages for athletes competing in the Pistol + Rifle format.

SAFETY FIRST

IMG_2730_edited.jpg

Safety is the foundation of The PGPR.

  • All live-fire stages are supervised by certified Range Officers (ROs).

  • Firearms are only handled under RO instructions and inside clearly marked shooting zones.

  • Athlete flow, spectator areas, and staff operations are physically separated to maintain a safe environment.

  • Every participant must complete a mandatory safety briefing before stepping onto the firing line.

No score, no time, and no ego is more important than going home safely at the end of the day.

FIREARMS & LICENSING BASICS IN PUERTO RICO

The PGPR takes place at RL Shooting Club in Aguas Buenas, an authorized shooting facility, and follows Puerto Rico’s Weapons Act 168-2019.

In general, Puerto Rico requires a valid firearms license to buy, own, or carry guns and ammunition. For many athletes, that means bringing their own legally registered pistol (and rifle for 2-Gun) and associated equipment in accordance with the law.

At the same time, Puerto Rico’s firearms law allows licensed dealers and shooting clubs to rent firearms and sell ammunition to adults 21 years or older without a firearms license, for use exclusively within the range premises and under controlled conditions.

For The PGPR, participation will be limited to athletes who:

  • Comply with all legal requirements under Weapons Act 168-2019, and

  • Meet the equipment and safety standards specified in our Rules & Standards.

We are working closely with RL Shooting Club to define options for athletes who do not yet own firearms or a license. Full details will be published in the Rules & Standards section before registration opens.

This event information is for orientation only and is not legal advice. For specific questions about your situation, please consult a licensed attorney or firearms professional in Puerto Rico.

THE VENUE: RL SHOOTING CLUB

RL Shooting Club in Aguas Buenas is home to the first edition of The PGPR.

The facility spans over 170 acres of controlled terrain, offering a unique mix of open field, natural elevation, and dedicated shooting zones. This layout allows us to design stages that combine running, carries, and functional fitness with safe, clearly separated live-fire areas.

For athletes and spectators, RL Shooting Club delivers the perfect balance of space, safety, and atmosphere:

  • A large open field for multi-stage workouts and movement under load

  • Designated shooting zones overseen by certified Range Officers (ROs)

  • Clearly defined areas for athletes, spectators, sponsors, and operations

It’s not just a venue - it’s part of what makes The PGPR possible.

WHY PUERTO RICO? WHY NOW?

The PGPR aims to:

  • Create a new competitive outlet for functional fitness and shooting on the island.

  • Offer a safe, structured environment for people to challenge themselves under pressure.

  • Position Puerto Rico as the home of the first event of its kind in the entire Caribbean.

By joining early, athletes, sponsors, and partners become founding members of something bigger: a movement that can grow into multi-day events, more divisions, and future editions across the region.
